Selecting The Right Shopping Cart For Your Website

Posted on July 2nd, 2008

Shopping Cart Installation And Setup

Shopping cart technology has evolved to be a must-have feature for the internet seller. Most e-merchants are aware that shopping carts function to facilitate the purchasing process. They provide the means to catalog sale items; calculate price and shipping costs; and process real-time payments. What business owners may not know is that shopping carts services can, as a result of their data-collecting functions, provide valuable advanced marketing information.

An e-merchant’s goal in setting up his website storefront is to maximize product exposure. He spends a great deal of time and effort developing an attractive site that is easy to find. But once found, the site must facilitate the closing of a sale. The decision to install a shopping cart system is a wise one because it provides a professional processing service, which makes buying easy for the customer. The many features of shopping cart systems are designed to attract and commit the buyer, and to make what can be a labor-intensive purchasing process simplified and enjoyable.

It is very important for the e-merchant to know and use the functions of the shopping cart system that assist in the management and planning aspects of his business. Many shopping cart systems can provide useful statistics to help you analyze the effectiveness of your site; your sales record; and the sources of your customer stream. You can have at your fingertips such information as: how much traffic your site is getting; who your referral URLs are; the number of abandoned sales; and details about your purchasers.

Be Careful That You Don’t Become A Slave To Your Home Business

Posted on July 1st, 2008

Although the expressed reasons for wanting to work from home are
many and varied, most home based business owners cite the ability
to set their own hours as a major factor in their decision to
work at home. However, many people that have work at home
businesses often fall into a trap that flies directly in the face
of their stated desire for time flexibility.

The strong growth in home based business activity continues and,
according to the Small Business Administration’s Office of
Advocacy, fifty-two percent of ALL small businesses are
home-based.

Some home based business owners have been known to become
“workaholics” because their office is so accessible. Don’t
become a slave to your business…get out of your home office
regularly to renew and revitalize yourself.

Close the door to your office or otherwise remove yourself from
your designated “work area” and go into your “home” area to live
your personal life. If your business involves the use of the
telephone and you find it difficult to ignore a ringing
phone in the office, simply turn the ringer off and turn the
volume on the answering machine way down. If your business is
internet based, just turn off your computer (or at least get away
from the monitor and keyboard).

As a work at home business entrepreneur, you certainly aren’t
required to be available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week just
because your business is located in your home. After all,
your office or workspace is just an area in your home…its not
your home itself!

Working and living under the same roof has a host of advantages,
but it can present some challenges (in addition to the workaholic
syndrome mentioned, above) and stress factors.

Here are four ways to create a less stressful home business
environment:

-Remember why you wanted to become involved with a home-based
business (i.e. more time for family, work schedule flexibility,

etc.)

-Have discussions with your family members and get their input
about the working arrangements and the amount of time they want
with you.

-Use good time management techniques. Keep a list of tasks by
order of importance. There are many low cost and effective “day
planners” or “organizers” readily available today.

-ALWAYS take a little time to “smell the roses”.

While not experiencing the negatives common to a corporate office
working environment, the home-based business owner may
occasionally experience stresses and frustrations that are unique
to working at home.

Networking with other home-based and small business owners
provides an opportunity to connect with others who may be
experiencing the same stresses/frustrations that you are. Sharing
stressful and/or frustrating issues with someone else in the same
situation can relieve your stress and may bring you good advice
from a different point of view.

As a final note, remember to observe Home-Based Business Week
each year (it is always the week of October that includes the
second Tuesday).

Extra Terrestrial Genetic Defect Myth

Posted on July 1st, 2008

There is a large contingency of people who believe in aliens and extra terrestrials. There are endless stories of abduction by UFO aliens, unbelievably performing spacecraft and ancient myths. One of the most intriguing and plausible explanations of why alien species are here or come to visit with us mostly harmless humans is to inter bread with us and repair their genetic flaws, which over hundreds of thousands of years had caused damage to their DNA. Some scientists have helped propel these myths but providing interesting information we have learned thru the space program about issues with radiation in space. For long-term space travel we must find solutions to protect us from the radiation, which might also damage our DNA. Thus conspiracy theorists and UFO-logists have hung onto this theory of why they believe the aliens are abducting people and as per the stories of the abducted seem to be quite interested in the human reproductive bio-systems.

Now then, let us discuss the flaws in these theories. First a civilization which may have been transplanted to this planet thru necessity or exploration outpost or colony would already have complete control of their DNA and bio-systems and thus have no need to introduce the human DNA into their lines as it would be somewhat weaker and less evolved. An advanced species which had control of their DNA would not have innate needs for procreation or need sex and thus would have figured out a way to clone without DNA replication loss issues. Additionally a species, which was far advanced would not be worried about DNA damage and would simply fix those issues themselves without having to splice genes from human beings. They would be able to genetically modify their DNA to over come any loses or replication issues from long-term space flight due to radiation or any issues with in-breading from their small population of alien space colony travelers.

Indeed whether you believe in aliens, UFOs or extra terrestrials is irrelevant to the question of if such a story is plausible, as it does not stand to reason. The legends, ancient writings and theories do not seem to hold water. As science learns more about DNA and as our own species becomes transhuman we will be able to better debate these alien urban legends and their flaws.

6 Ways To Prevent Identity Theft

Posted on June 30th, 2008

These six ways to prevent identity theft offer you valuable tips against the fastest growing crime in America today. In 2004, more than 9.9 million Americans fell victim to many types of identity theft scams, costing them nearly $5 billion.

Their finances were severely hurt because they never thought it would happen to them. Hopefully, this article will help many of you so you won’t become a new victim of this terrible crime.

Here are six ways to prevent identity theft.

1. Shred any documents you receive that contain any personal information. This includes credit card receipts and pre-approved credit applications. This important tip alone can offer you more protection against identity theft than any other suggestion here.

2. Never give personal information to people over the phone, on the Internet or through the mail. Identity thieves will claim to be from the government, your bank or even law enforcement. Keeping your personal information private is one of the best ways to prevent identity theft.

3. Check your credit reports from all three major credit bureaus at least once a year and look to see that everything is accurate. If you find an error, dispute it immediately for protection against identity theft.

4. Be aware when your bills usually arrive every month and check them over carefully. Thieves can steal your credit card statements and this popular type of identity theft has been around for decades.

5. Don’t use common numbers like your birthdate or the last four digits of your Social Security number for your ATM password. If you have done this change it immediately. This is a common mistake people make and one of the quickest ways to prevent Identity theft.

6. Never give out your Social Security number unless it is absolutely necessary. Your employer, financial institution and doctor need it for identification and tax reporting. But if someone else asks for your Social Security number, always question why they need it and be cautious when giving it to anyone.

For maximum protection against identity theft keep any personal information about you as private as possible. Use these 6 ways to prevent identity theft and you will have a much better chance of avoiding this nightmare.

Memoirs of a Wasteland’s Rim [a Poem - now in Spanish and English]

Posted on June 30th, 2008

Memoirs of a Wasteland’s Rim

It still was light when she paused at the wasteland's rim
Over, the rim rest like a sleeping brute, a wooden frame
Adjacent to the blue where early stars hung like oil lamps
Hanging from old beams and shadethe wooden frame
Her footing caught the beams, as she had fallen onto it
Alone, she watched the forenoon, climbing around her
A drifter woman, marked by life, and slanting dreams
With appearance of hurt and molded muscle on her face
Her figure etched against the wooden frame,
She tried to jump, and lost her balance, hanging like a bird
Now sipping the gloom in the ledge and shattered hopes
She yielded before the sluggish advance of sunset
Blood dripped, with her dying darkness
And a crimson moon hurled a flame across
The shadowy clouds, burning throughout the sky
The tormented sky above her

Crossing the valley's floor her eye gripped it
Rocky images, highest points
Thrusting herself up boldly from to the ledge
The painted morning blushed over the rim
Her brows and nose, face against the granite stone
Massive injuries was taking form,
Her silhouette floating so indolently across the sun
It was too great a taskto die aloneshe wished now
She had not jumpeda thousand feet below, yet to go.
Too much for any woman in a lost world
Out of the weak wood her mind had peace;
She knew soon it would all be overalas
Mute and protesting against life's uselessness
A narrow path lay below her slender body
Between death and attainment, a careless foot
The rocks beneath her weakening, she plunged
Plunged to her death, in the carving hands of the valley
Thinking of it, as she fell, thinking with a smiled,
Saying, looking updead before her echoes:
'Time is shorttime is shorttime is short!'
When they found her, her face was unafraid of falling.

Fuera de la madera d?bil su mente ten?a paz;

Custom Website Design - 3 Must Have Tools

Posted on June 29th, 2008

Creating your own website can be fun and easy, as long as you have the right tools. Fortunately, all the tools you need are available at your fingertips and all you need to know are which tools will allow you to design the best website possible. The following tools are only a selection of the many means you can use to create and design the perfect website for your company.

Tool #1 Website Builder
Templates and design options take all of the work out of designing your own website. There are many website builders on the Internet that will allow you, for a fee, to simply pick and choose different templates, fonts, and colors and have your web page basically created for you. All you have to do is upload your information and pictures and in just a few minutes you will have a well designed and fully functioning website. Do some research online to find the company that offers the best website builder for your design needs that is also within your budget.

Tool #2 Website Templates
If you already have a web site in place and want to improve the design, then you should consider website templates. These provide a more affordable option than the website builder and you simply choose the templates you like. With this option you have to do more of the work, but you will pay less money. You can find a variety of different websites online that provide templates for a small fee, or if you are very creative and skilled you can design your own.

Tool #3 Macromedia Fireworks MX 2004
This software is perfect if you are a web developer and have significant experience designing websites. This particular program is superior and allows you to design your website exactly as you like, design and create logos, create animations, and pretty much any design idea you have can be completed with this program. However, if you are a beginner you should stick with tool #1 or #2 in order to develop a web page more quickly and with fewer problems. This is a great program, but it is a program for professionals.

Don’t let the idea of designing your own website make you nervous or anxious because there are custom website design options for everyone at all skill levels. You simply have to find the option that fits your ability and budget best, and before you know you will have an amazingly well designed website that you did all on your own. Use all of the tools available to you online and you will be able to find your best option for designing your own website.

Finding a Reliable Host

Posted on June 29th, 2008

Finding reliable hosting for your business opportunity is no small task. Actually, it can be a full-time undertaking!

This is because most hosting companies focus on the higher end corporate market and overlook the fast-growing small office/home office (SOHO) sector. It is possible, however, if you clarify needs, gather recommendations, create a list of potential hosts and ask questions….lots of them.

Clarify your needs: how much disk space and bandwidth is necessary? Will you need CGI or database capacities? What operating system will you require? Will your site change dramatically down the pike, and are you searching only for yourself or for customers?

Be wary of web hosting directories since many are owned by web hosts. You should obtain feedback from those with sites and glean webmaster newsgroup postings.

In creating a list, include those recommended the most and complained about the least, and determine which hosts offer specific services best suited to your need(s) and which fits your price range.

Always ask questions, i.e.: technical questions to gauge their knowledge and accuracy; find out whether they are committed to their customers or their bank account and subject them to an honesty test…offer them the opportunity to upsell you needlessly.

If you fall into the SOHO category, you may feel more comfortable with a smaller hosting company who better understands your needs and situation. Please be sure you can add domains to a core plan and resell services, and ensure that they offer a knowledge base.

You should also watch for signs of rudeness, impatience and unresponsiveness and make sure they are flexible. A downed site costs you visitors and sales and gives you only another headache in your life of an Internet marketer.
